Fishing Report: June 13

Last night I had the opportunity to show a friend one of my favorite striper haunts. The prevailing bait was, once again, grass shrimp. There was a lot less surface activity than previous nights, but with a little more water in the area some larger schoolies came out to play.

Between the two of us we probably landed 8 fish, two of which cracked the 20 inch mark. Again, not the most prolific of "hatches", but there was enough fish and bait to get my friend, George, back on the fly fishing bug. He really took a liking to "trout fishing for striped bass" and made quick work of stripers using dead drifts and swings.

"Striper George" with a hefty schoolie.

In other news, the kind folks at The Saltwater Edge lent me a Ken Abrames Salmo Saxatillis #3 fly rod to play around with for the remainder of this tide cycle. After fishing with it last night I think I'm in love. Then again, it was only our first date. I should probably spend some more time with her before making anything official.
