Life at the intersection of rock, ice, river, and fairway is truly unique; full of intrigue, beauty, and charm.
We wan't to share this world with you through photography, writing, and guided experiences.
S.K.S Adventures is an informal guide service and blog based in Salisbury, CT. Our goal is to make fly-fishing, golf, and climbing approachable for the new and experienced alike.
It is our belief that The Berkshires, The Hudson Valley, and The Adirondacks possess a rare mix of the understated beauty and wild grandeur. We specialize in curating experiences that are both memorable, informative, and celebrate this unique spirit of Western New England.
Unlike a traditional guide service we do not have set outing types. When a client wants to fish, golf, or climb with us the first step is to co-design an outing that custom fits the client’s experience level, availability, and interests.
New to fly-fishing? We’ll incorporate a beginners casting lesson into the outing before hitting the River. A seasoned climber, but new to the area? We’ll leverage your existing skills to design an experience that will both challenge and introduce you to this wonderful part of the world. Have children? We’ll keep the outing fun and educational with nature walks and wildlife lessons. Once we have designed your ideal outing costs are calculated using an hourly per person rate for all golf and fly-fishing experiences. All climbing outings are arranged through Small Cliffs Guiding.
Our Story
S.K.S Adventures began in 2019 as the brainchild of Sam Somera, a then resident of Rhode Island's East Bay and longtime fly fisherman. For years Sam sought to combine his passions for teaching and fly fishing. After years of learning the local waters and expanding his fly fishing knowledge, Sam was finally ready to share his insights and experience with others through engaging print and online content, as well as guided outings.
Then that very same year Sam took a teaching position in Northwest Connecticut, trading the estuaries and rocky shores of the Ocean State for the streams and lakes of the Southern Berkshires. From 2020-2026 S.K.S Adventures laid dormant while Sam discovered new passions for rock and ice climbing and revived old ones such as his love of al things golf. This included gaining his AMGA Single Pitch Instructor Certification and joining Small Cliffs Guiding and pursuing a Master's Degree in Experiential Learning and Design through Plymouth State University.
In 2026 Sam re-imagined S.K.S Adventures with these new passions and his new locale in mind. The blog has now expanded to include writing and photography on fly-fishing, golf, and climbing with an emphasis on showcasing the best of The Berkshires, The Hudson Valley, and The Adirondacks. Likewise, the guiding service has broadened it's scope to include curated fly-fishing, golf, and climbing experiences.
Our Mission
Our mission is two-fold. On the blog our mission is to provide informative, engaging, and accessible content about fly fishing, climbing, and golf with an emphasis on the waters, mountains, and links we call home. Though seemingly disparate activities, we think that our blog can showcase the intersection between these domains and cultivate a unique conception of the adventurous life rooted in an appreciation for refinement, history, and connection with the natural world.
In the guiding realm our mission is to educate and expose individuals to the possibilities for adventurous living that exist in their own backyard. We want our clients to expand their knowledge and skill, see the region in a new light, and develop lasting memories an connections.
Looking to the Future
Although S.K.S. Adventures started as a creative outlet and place to archive a life of adventure, it has always striven to expand it's reach to providing real experiences to real people. At the moment S.K.S Adventures is a blog offering guided outings, but in the future we hope to expand our ability to host community events that bring together like-minded adventurers and lovers of place.
This could include fly tying events, casting events, lectures, river and crag clean-ups, golf clinics and tournaments, gear swaps, and large group outings.
If you are interested in supporting the growth of S.K.S Adventures through a guided outing or other means visit our contact page to get in touch with us. We are excited to hear from you!
